Wrexham School Reaping the Benefits of Welsh Government Funding

A local primary school which recently received significant Welsh Government investment is moving from strength to strength.

After attending the official re-opening of Hafod Y Wern CP School in June, Wrexham’s Assembly Member Lesley Griffiths visited again to meet with staff and students and to see how everyone is settling into their new surroundings.

Both Hafod Y Wern and Gwenfro CP Schools underwent a £10m redevelopment as part of the Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools Programme.

The Welsh Government revealed in their draft Budget announcement earlier this week that an extra £40m is set to be allocated to accelerate the programme so even more schools across Wrexham and Wales will benefit.

During her visit, Ms Griffiths met with Head Teacher, Mr Edwards and Chair of Governors, Mr Jones, as well as taking part in the latest meeting of the newly-elected school council.  She said: “Multimillion pound Welsh Labour Government investment has made such a positive difference at Hafod Y Wern.  There is a lovely atmosphere at the school and it is obvious that everyone associated is proud of their new, modern facilities.”

“It was a pleasure meeting the new school councillors who all asked some really interesting questions.  I am sure the children will do a great job representing their fellow pupils and I look forward to visiting again in the future.”
