People are being encouraged to put forward the name of their colleague, friend, neighbour or family member who they believe is deserving of national recognition.
Nominations are now open for this year’s St David Awards and local Assembly Member, Lesley Griffiths is urging Wrexham residents to nominate their local heroes.
Entering its seventh year, the St David Awards acknowledge the great deeds and outstanding achievements of people the length and breadth of Wales.
Two new categories are being introduced for the 2020 St David Awards. There are now nine categories in total – Bravery, Culture, Enterprise, Innovation and Technology, Sport, Young Person and the First Minister’s Special Award, plus the two new categories – the St David Humanitarian Award and the Community Spirit Award.
The St David Humanitarian Award will recognise an individual or group from Wales which has improved the lives of others, either in Wales or internationally.
The new Community Spirit Award will honour those people who have worked to improve their local community. It is designed to reward unselfish actions, which have served the public or improved the lives of others.
Lesley Griffiths AM said: “The St David Awards are the highest accolades the Welsh Government can bestow, with the respective awards celebrating the exceptional achievements of people from all walks of life.”
“With Wrexham-based entrepreneurs and residents being recognised in the past, I hope local success can be repeated once again.”
Nominations close on 17 October 2019 and the finalists will be announced on 13 February 2020. A celebratory dinner will take place on 19 March 2020 at the Senedd, in Cardiff Bay.
