As the country comes to terms with the devastating flooding caused during storms Ciara and Dennis, a new fund has been made available by the Welsh Labour Government aimed at supporting all those affected.
Wrexham’s Assembly Member, Lesley Griffiths has welcomed the emergency relief fund that could see people whose homes have been impacted receiving up to £1,000.
All households affected by flooding throughout Wales will receive £500. An extra £500 will be available to those without house insurance cover. Due to the swift and destructive impact of the flooding, people will receive an initial payment within 24 hours.
The Welsh Government is encouraging those affected to contact their Local Authority emergency support team in the first instance for help and guidance with the application.
Lesley Griffiths AM said: “In my role as Minister for Environment, Energy & Rural Affairs, it was a harrowing experience to visit many of the worst-hit areas. Communities have rallied as best they can but the distress and despair caused by the floods is overwhelming.”
“The Welsh Government simply had to act and I am pleased swift action has taken place, with the £10 million emergency fund set up to help with the immediate aftermath.”
“I recognise certain areas that have been devastated by the flooding will need greater support and I back the First Minister calling on the UK Government to step up to the mark and provide additional funding to help cover the cost of infrastructure damage.”
Further information can be found on the ‘February floods’ section on the Welsh Government website.
