Improving access to public transport for Wales’ younger generation is the aim of a new consultation launched this week.
The Welsh Labour Government is encouraging interested individuals, groups and organisations to put forward their views on how best to promote bus travel amongst 16 – 24 year olds.
The current My Travel Pass scheme offers 16 – 18 year olds a third off bus fares but is expected to end in March 2018.
Views and information gathered in this latest consultation, which is open until 4 January, will contribute to the development of an improved, replacement programme, due to be launched in April 2018.
Lesley Griffiths, Wrexham’s Assembly Member, hopes local young people will have their say and said: “Discounted bus travel would make a big difference to young people in and around Wrexham, enabling greater access to employment, education and training, as well as providing independence.”
“This consultation will help deliver an improved programme. I am sure an extension of the current scheme will be welcomed and I will also raise the subject of cross border connections, which is clearly a key issue locally.”
