Councils across Wales will be able to spend more on key public services thanks to an increase in funding from the Welsh Government.
Wrexham’s Member of the Senedd has welcomed the news Wrexham Council’s budget for the upcoming financial year is set to increase by 9.4%, when compared with last year’s budget.
Just before Christmas, the Welsh Government published its provisional local government settlement for 2022-23, which outlines what the 22 councils across Wales can expect to receive to spend on social care, education, recycling and other key local services.
Core funding will increase by 9.4%, meaning local authorities will share £5.1 billion, and no council will receive less than an 8.4% increase.
Lesley Griffiths MS said: “I am pleased Wrexham Council’s budget is set to increase by 9.4% and I am sure this news will be widely welcomed.
“Increasing the settlement will enable local authorities to deliver Welsh Labour’s commitments, such as paying social care workers the Real Living Wage, helping local firms pay their business rates and funding the Council Tax Reduction Scheme.
“After years of UK Government austerity, the pandemic has created many further challenges but I hope this funding boost will allow Wrexham Council to plan ahead with greater confidence. It will enable the Local Authority to focus on delivering the public services the people of Wrexham rely on.”
The consultation on the provisional settlement will end on 8 February 2022.
